Meet the Maker - Katie from KatieCake Designs

Hello friends.  Welcome to another week of our Meet the Maker series.  This week we're getting to know Katie from KatieCake Designs.

How would you describe your work?
I would describe my work as mostly home decor that can be suitable to ladies of all ages.  I like to make modern things to pretty up the home, with beautiful fabrics, and sometimes a vintage twist.

How did you start selling online?
My Etsy shop came into being from me spending my persoanl time after I graduated Uni making pretty things for my home.  I thought why not sell them?  I've always loved going to markets and talking to all the talented people there and have always had a bit of creative side myself.

Who or what inspires you?
I'd say that my mother inspires me a lot.  I got into craft because she had and she supports me 100%  Also I want to be able to share with people the things I love and help them brighten their homes!

Do you reduce, reuse, recycle?
In terms of reusing, I have been very much into vintage laces recently as well as doily's.  I feel these things have had way too much work in them and are much too beautiful to waste.

Tell us about your creative workspace?
At the moment I am only in a one bedroom apartment, so literally everywhere becomes my workspace! My sewing machine is a permanent feature on my dining table as is my cutting board.  My cross stitch and crochet is usually confined to my coffee table to pick up as I please.  Once I get a bigger place I will be sure to create a more organised space.

What is your favourite thing to make at the moment?
My favourite thing to make would probably be my fabric flowers at the moment, the more I make the better the bunch looks!  I am also enjoying making little crochet projects as I have just mastered it!

How did you decide on your business name?
I decided on my business name through one of my best friends from school.  She heard my Mum calle me Katie and then she decided to call me Katiekatiekatiecakes!  Thus the name.

Where do you see your creative journey taking you in the next 12 months?
I hope to see my journey taking me to many markets and learning the ropes off others.  I want to be able to share ideas and passion with the other people in BrisStyle!

What is your favourite handmade item?
There are just SO many handmade items that I have bought over the years (I blame online shopping) but a favourite of mine would have to be my vintage wreath, filled with flowers, beautiful fabrics and vintage lace (which is what inspired me to start making wreths in the first place).  Another would be some hand painted bunting that features 3 flags each with a super cute owl on each.

Where can we find you?
Other than my online sites (madeit and etsy) some of my products are available at Handmade Highstreet in Annerley (1/466 Ipswich Road, Annerley).

Thanks so much for sharing with us Katie :)
